Heartgard Plus Chewable Tablets for Dogs used monthly can help your dog avoid the risk, stress, and long periods of confinement that go along with treatment for canine heartworm disease while protecting against some intestinal parasites too! What is Heartgard Plus? Heartgard Plus contains Ivermectin and Pyrantel pamoate which are powerful worming medications that work to prevent heartworm disease in your dog while working to treat and control hookworms and roundworms at the same time. What are the Benefits of Heartgard Plus? Highly effective in preventing heartworm disease in dogs. Unique combination of worming medications also assists in the control and treatment of certain intestinal parasites (roundworms and hookworms) which can be a danger to other pets and humans. Most dogs adore the beefy taste. Chewable tablets administered monthly make it easy to give. Formulated for canines (dogs) older than 6 weeks and can be safely given to pregnant/breeding females as necessary. How is this medication given? Heartgard Plus is given every 30 days as a chewable tablet. The tablets need to be chewed and may need to be broken in small pieces if your dog has the tendency to swallow without chewing. Some veterinarians may recommend giving tablets only during the mosquito season(spring/summer) although others recommend using tablets year-round. Check with your veterinarian regarding his/her specific recommendations. If given seasonally, the first dose must be given within 30 days of the dog's first exposure to mosquitoes. The last dose must be given within 30 days after the dog's last exposure to mosquitoes. A blood test to check for heartworm disease is necessary before starting Heartgard Plus. The frequency of testing should take into account variables such as prevalence of heartworm disease in the area, missed or late doses of heartworm preventative, and your dog�s lifestyle. Your veterinarian will determine the exact frequency of testing for your dog. This medication should only be given to the dog for which it has been prescribed. Tablets should not be split and should be given exactly as directed. Never give two doses at once and always check with your veterinarian if a dose has been missed. How does this medication work? Monthly administration of Heartgard Plus Chewable Tablets for Dogs as directed by your veterinarian should effectively kill immature heartworms introduced to the dog within 30 days. Killing heartworms in the immature stage will prevent the development of adult heartworms which are difficult to treat and can be deadly if your dog becomes infected. Ivermectin and Pyrantel pamoate can also effectively kill and prevent certain intestinal worms (roundworms and hookworms). What results can I expect? You can expect Heartgard Plus to kill heartworm larvae (immature heartworms) which will prevent the formation of adult heartworms that can be problematic and sometimes life-threatening to your dog. Roundworms and hookworms can also be prevented and controlled with the active ingredients in this medication. What form(s) does Heartgard Plus come in? Unfortunately, the vets in my area have a problem with saving their customers money, so therefore they decided not to okay the prescription forcing me to purchase it through them. I did not appreciate this but I have to care for my dog. So instead of them wanting to look out for the interest of their customers the need for greed wins again.
